THE HOME ELECTIONS.
London. Nov 18.
The future relationship of the two Liberal wings is being re- discussed. In view of the independent majority secured by the Conservatives there is a tendency to believe that the ex-Coalition Liberals will eventually merge with the Wee Frees, and the Cham berlainites will drift back to the Government benches: but the obstacle to this is that many Natichal Liberals, especially Scottish members, owe their seats to Tory votes and such a step might provoke difficulties with their constituents.
Mr. H. G. Wells, the Labour candidate, was defeated at London University. He polled 1.427 votes. Sir Russell Wells, the Unionist. won with 3,833 votes, and Professor Pollard, the Literal, was second with 2,130 votes.

London, Nov. 19. A special Paris message states that much keenness was reflected in the speeches in the Chamber during the final discussion on the for refloating the Banque Industrielle, on November 16th. The Colonial Commission warmly supported the measure. M. Outrey. the Chairman thereof, drew attention to the interests not only of the French and Chinese but the Annamites who had deposited money in the Bank and were now penniless. M. Isaac hoped that, if the Bank was unable to pay all the depositors in gold, French citizens who had received official assurances should be granted priority The socialist, M. Lafont frequently intervened, opposing the Bill M. Bokanowski stated that the object of the discussion was not merely concerned with rescuing the Bank, peinting, out that the directors had already suffered civil penalties and were not yet out of the wood. Moreover, the shareholders were compelled to pay up the remaining three quarters of their holdings. M. Poin- care explained that the refloating of the Bank was a matter affecting the prosperity and good name of France, after which an altercation arose between M. Lafont and M. Poincare. The former prefixed a remark concerning M. Poincare's sincerity with the adverb="pro-
