HOME POLITICAL CRISIS.

London, Oct. 11.

It is certain as eah be that there will be a general election before Christmas, announces the political correspondent of Mr. Lloyd George's organ, the Daủy Chronicle, following a meeting of the Cabinet at which the question was deliberated. The only doubt is whether it can be taken before the meeting of Parliament in November.

Mr. Lloyd George manifestly considers that the prospective successful jasue of the Government's policy in the Near Eas which evoked such violent criticism on the part of the opposition. offers an unmissable electoral opportunity. There were, cansa- quently, the greatest activities in Coalition circles resterday, Party Whips and organisers met to consider reports from 'con- stituencies, Mr. Chamberlain conferred with his Conservative-col- leagues and then with Lord Carson, Mr. Lord George consulted various Coalition Liberal supporters, who endorsed the wisdom of an early election, and Sir Robert Horse and Mr. Amery decided to postpone their visits to the United States and Canada respective- ly. Some counsellors are advising Mr. Lloyd George to resign in view of the threatened revolt of the Conservative Associations, but his resignation at present is not regarded seriously. Mr. Cham- berlain intimated that if, fallowing resignation, he was summoned to form a Government, he would advise His Majesty to dissolve Parliament.

THE MUDANIA AGREEMENT.

*

Loudes. Oct. 11. Madania

AL

The news of the signing of the agreement at 11 o'clock yesterday evening arrived too late for comment in the morning newspapers, but it was not unexpected and undoubtedly has been received with universal satisfaction and relief. It is pointed out here, that the renewed evidence of Allied solidarity was an important factor in inducing the acceptance of the terms by the Turks, who saw clearly that terms indicated

were the Allies last word

Constantinople. Oct. 1

In a conciliatory speech presenting the proposed convention Major-General Harington thanked Ismet for the order of a cessa- tion to the movement of troops. He described the terms as gen- erous and said the Allied troops would be removed from Constan- tinople on the declaration of peace. It appeared to him that the Turks were offered nearly all their national aspirations without loss of life and without disturbing the peace and prosperity of their country. "Your goal is within reach and will be entirely in your hands in 45 days and your administration established satin factorily. All the Allies ask is that the present zone be respected the ratification of the peace; secondly, a limit to gendarmery. in Tance: thirdly, the presence 05 Allied detachments and missions in Thrace for a very limited period. The Greek dele- gates would be disposed to sign with certain reservations.
