It will be observed that twenty six trips were made in this period and that the seven days passage to which the Ordinance applies has only been exceeded on the average six days, three occasions; time occupied being four hours, which is eleven hours per trip less than our time with Government.
As the Peninsular and Oriental Company are now adding a number of Steamers of a very superior class to their Fleet, it may be fairly anticipated that the future performances will greatly improve, and I trust His Excellency the Governor will be pleased to take aside the necessary steps for setting aside that part of the Act which includes voyage from Hongkong to Singapore of over seven days duration.
