London, Aug. 22 All semblance of open warfare between the Nationals and Irregulars is at an end, accordćeg to news from Dublin. Every city and important township from Donegal to Cark is in the hands of Government forces. De Valera and his men are now Hving the lives of bandits. Some people say it is the beginning of the end, and others that the real fight la only beginning.
¿Reports from County Cork say that the Irregulars are suing for peace. There is no indication, however, that the mutineers are prepared to unconditionally surrender. "In both China and India there is now a strong feeling that converts to the Christian religion most organise themselves and formulate their own version of Christianity," declared Professor Percy Gardner, President of the Churchmen's Union, at the open- ing of the Conference of Modern Churehmen at Oxford. The crude notion of merely importing inte. India and China ready-made Church systems was giving way to feeling that each nation had something to add, so that adaptation was necessary. The Nestorian and Jesuit Missions were crushed out by national reaction. Protection by Europeans was necessary until the local churches were strong, but not after.
IRISH CAMPAIGN FUNDS.
