*** I cannot be held responsible for the military action on the night of the 16th. June, as previous to that date I had resignad my post as Civil Governor of Canton.. It is said by other people that I condoned this sction because Yip Kne was my subordinate and takes his orders from me. Whether this be true or otherwise, I do not care to engage in argument, but will be content to leave it to the judgment of the public.
"If it is the intention of Dr. Sun Yat-sen to re-establish the Presidency in Canton, it would involve the disarmament and disbandment of Yip Kue's soldiers, which I am afraid will be difficult to bring about. It would, in fact, be impos sible to bring this about by negotiations.
"It bar been said against me that I have insisted apon Sun Yat-sen's withdrawal from his political position. This -ja-untraż, because I have not-spoked-s-single word about →
this.
If I had, I would not have dared to show my face to Sun Yat-sen.
