WEAVING INDUSTRY. According to investigation Frade by the Ito Chu Shoji Kai- sha, the total number of cotton- weaving factories belonging to $1 cotton weaving guilds in Japan in May was 10,605 factories, and the total of looms were aatimated as 501,919. Out of them looms, 99,737 stopped operations during the whole month, and 34,030 [looms cut down the operations dy 30 per cent, while K,923 looma suspended operations completely since May 15th. Looms number- Ing 37,821 in Tokorozawa, Nibu, Okašama, Oku, Yamaguchi, Kurume and Komamojo are in full operations. In other weaving districts, the statistics of the límitation or stoppage of opera- tions are not yet published, bat it is known that limitations of operations have been enforced. It is estimated that 53 per cent of the whole number of looms are on short time or have stopped. In spite of such limitations in operations, there is no complaint regarding increases "of stocks of yarn on the market. Stocks, indead, are reported to be com- paratively small, numbering only about 15,000 bales. When all the looms begin operations,
the consumption of cotton will be very large.
