To purchase and send out a new Hand Fire engine, and Two (2) Fire Escape Ladders (of the pattern enclosed.)

There is also required another portable Canvas Water Cistern suitable for being conveyed with the Steam Fire Engines which are at present in the Colony.

It would be of considerable advantage if Captain Shaw, of the London Fire Brigade, or some other competent authority, would advise as to the best kind of Stand Fire Engine to be purchased. Regarding its size, it should be large enough to be worked by about twenty men, and such as could be taken up to the steep hills in the upper part of the City by manual labour; but beyond this, we can offer no satisfactory information.

The two Stand Engines belonging to the Brigade have been for fourteen years in use in the Colony, and though they are in fair repair, yet they are of a clumsy and unnecessarily heavy description.

It is estimated that the cost of the new Engine with the necessary implements will be about £120.00, and of the Ladders £22.0.0 each.

I have the honor to be,

My Lord,

Your Lordship's most Obedient humble Servant,

[Signature]

Governor
