JAPANESE STEAMEES IN WORLD'S
CARRYING TRADEA
Qes of the most salient pheno mons that came in with the way has been the participation of Japanese ships, in the carrying- trade all over the world. Before the
war traffic between non- Japanese ports did not extend: mach beyond Indian ports, bat. now Japanese steamers are found on every ocean, and it lately: happened that only an O.SK. boat could be found passing with-- in calling distance of Tristan da Cunha, Japanese ships Haves participated largely in the Aten fuatic, trade, and yet other Gog=% quests are contemplated. The transportation of America`luma....... ber, Australian wheat and Ssigón. rice to this country are almost finished for the year, and some shipowners bad entertained pessimistic views about the dis- position of large-sized steamers, but the exports of wheat from the Pacific coast of Nor.h America. to Europe have been very büsy of late, and the Meiji Kain Kaisha, the Kawasaki Kisen Kalsba, the Köksi Kisen Keisha and others have entered into contracts with American merchants to use their steamers at the rata at 45d, for May ship-' ment and 40d. for June shipment The Mein-maru of the. Meiji Kalun Kaisha, the Keifuku-maru of the Kawasaki Klsen Kaisha, the Vancouver-marn of the Kokusai Kisen Kaisha and nine fother steamers are to be thos ngaged. If the exports of wheat. from North America continue to be busy, it is believed: that more large-sized Japanese steamers will be engaged in the trade,
