Hankow, Apr. 11-The Min istry of War through the Director General of Customs at Peking. has ordered the Customs Cauthorities at Brakow to take stringent measures to examine all foreign and Chinese steamers passing through Hantow en route to Iohang or Szechuan parts to Soa that no contraband Arms *FO allowed to make their way to Szechuan, which has long been the oblat source of concern to General Wa Perfu Rumours are current here that several foreign boats loaded with arms and ammunition at Shang- hai are proceeding to Ichang and Chungking very soon.
And it is for the above repor! that the Mei Ren, a newly-buil steamer of the American West China Navigation Company, on its malden trip to Hankow from Shanghai eo route to Szechusn is being detained here, to-day by the Maritime Customs authoritin af Hankow who insist on having a thoough search on the boat be fare allowing it to depart with 'it cargo and passengers.
