THE CALCUTTA CONFERENCE.

Negotiations have been pro- greasing between the Nippon Yusen Kaisha and the Osake Shosen Kaisha for making a compromise as to the, Calcntia. shipping line in which both have been competing. According to the Mainichi, a compromise has now been completed, so far 23 these two companies are concern- ed. The OS.K. has made the concession that it will confine it- self to the dispatch of one ship montb. The N.Y.K. has consent- ed to the admittance of O.S.K. only on this condition and sought approval from the other com- panies affiliating with the Con- ference. The Britiab-India S. N. Co. is said to maintain an attitude of opposition. It is supposed however, that the O.S.K. will in the end. succeed in its endeavour, seeing that the N.Y.K. succeeded" in gatting in, though at some sacrifice.
