THE "ROMA" DISASTER.

What Eye-Witnesses Saw,

Norfolk, February 22. + Thousands of people witnessed the fi-aster to the ship Roma. which appears to have been filled with hydragen stead of unindammable helium, with which it was previousis led.

All accounts agree that the huge kite-like ru Mer slipped down on side whilst the Roma was driving ahead at a high altitude at s good speed. The dirigible did not respond to the elevation lever upon which an officer pulled with his utmost power. The motors were cut off and sand ballast thrown out in a vin attempt to check! the airship's descent. Two men leaped our just before the vessell struck, whilst others, when the craft was agroun.l, dropped through doors, portholes and holes which they tore through the fabric sides.
