ANGLO-FRENCH ALLIANCE.

London, Jan. S. Interviewed in Paris on the eve of his departure for Channes. 3. Briand declared that the key to the whole situation is France's security. The pact of alliance between Britain and France, the pact which we offered, asked for but had not obtained, would be 1 the best proof that our naval building programme is not and never can be directed against our English friends. It would be the plat form on which the reconstruction of Europe,'t be effective and lasting, could best be based." M. Briand suggested that alliance+ taking in other allies might gradually be attached but the Franco- British ance must be the basis of them all.
