THE MARIA LUISA, Acting Attorney General Tua son of the Philippines, bas receiv ed a letter from Governor Gene- rs! Wood requesting him to can- duct a prompt investigation into the Maria Loisa disaster, which took place off the coast of Zem- bales recently, causing the death: of sixty odd persons, with a view to instituting criminal action against Captais Enrique Beza who was in command of the vessel at the time of the accident and Lorenzo Bezs, his first officer. It is said that Governor Wood made the recommendationtopros ecuteCaptain Beza and his first of ficer after going over the report on the findings of the board of marine accidents of the bureau of cus- toms who made the investigation to fix the responsibility of the dis- aster. Attorney General Torson says that before any prosecution can be instituted against Captain Beza and his chief officer, it has to be determined first upon what law the action will be based. The bureau of justice will have to determine also under (whose jurisdiction the case comes. whether the trial will be in Marits or in Zambales. He says that the admission of extra pas- sengers took place in Manils and the disaster occurred near Zam- bales, and these two facts will be taken into consideration to de- termine the court of jurisdiction. Anattorney also has been assigned. to handle the investigation and be is expected to start the probe to-day. It is also said that if the facts brought out by the board of marine accidents are sufficient to warrant, the prosecution of the captain and his chief oficer, the findings of the best will be utils ised as basis för ketion?
