Admiral Beatty on Naval Co-operation in the War.
Kansas City, October 31. Admiral Beatty, addressing the convention of the American Legion, said that comradeship was the great lesson of the war.) The spirit which animated the fighters must animate the nations. Raferring to the union of the Anglo-American naval forces under his command, Admiral Rexity said that the American sailors absorbed their Admiral's conception of comradeship so thoroughly that in the North Sea operations British ships were as often commanded by an American Admiral as American ships were commanded by British Admirals.
Question of War Debts Not to be Raised.
London, Ceraber 31. In the House of Commons, replying to Mr. Gideon Murray, Sir Robert Horne stated that the Government was not communicating with the American Government in regard to the cancellation of the i European war debts. He gathered from the Press that po economic question would be taken up at the Washington Conference, and declared that public discussion of these questions would tend to create rather than allay difficulties.
Policy of "Spheres of Influence" in China Superseded.
London, October 31.
In the Home of Conupons, replying to Sir Alfred Yeo, Mr. Harmsworth stated that the policy of spheres of in lucare in China has been superseded by a policy of international co-operation. Further development of this policy would doubtless be discussed at Washington.
LLOYD'S REGISTER STATISTICS SHOW SLUMP.
More Oil-Burners than Coal-Barners Built.
London. October 31. The annual report of Lloyd's Regiver shows that the new onge classed by the society during the year ended June 30 decreased by 25 per cent, as compared with the corresponding period of 1919-20. Following the great decrease in new orders during 1920-21, there have been such extensive reductions in the plans abmitted to the society in recent months as to indicate an un- precedented slump.
New tonnage included 112 oil-tankers built 1930-21 equal to 18) per cent of the total tonnage: while 353 new ships, or 55 per cent. were fitted for oil-burning: For the first time in the society's history

London, October 31, There was a large attendance in the House of Commens on the occasion of the full-dress debate on the resolution disapproving the Government's action in entering the Irish peace negotiations with
Sinn Fein.
Col. Gretton, who led the attack, denied that the resolution was tautamount to a vote of censure, and declared that Irish republicans were gradually ousting the King's Government from Island that the rebels be severely dealt with. The speech evoked frequent cheering.
The Premier, who was assured of the support of the Labour men bars, the independant Liberals, and the majority of the Coalitionists, strenously defended the Government in their attempts to exhaust every means to bring about a peaceful settlement ecuristent with the safety and honour of the British Empire. He said that if the conference broke down-and it might the first thing the Govern ment would have to do would be to ask the House considerably to strengthen the Crown Forces in Ireland.
