A correspondant writes to the Liverpool Journal of Commer
I hear to-day from one of the
directors that the owners of the greatest French liner, the Paris, intend to make their motto "Oil only." The Paris has now made several very successful trips over the Atlantic, and has used nothing but oil fuel. She curries out all her bunkering at New York. This is clean, quick and economical, and means that all the staff and accommodation for European bunkering bars bean saved. The Paris was fitted for coal or oil fuel, but it is not likely that an ounce of coal will ever be seen aboard her. The account for her early voyages, show cutable reduction in the cost of running, simply as a result of the use of oil fuel."
