I had
not
absented myself from my official
Duties for
the previous
Three
years.
My health being at that time seriously impaired, I applied for four months additional
Leave on
Medical Certificate
to enable me to return to England,
but I regret to say
The State of my health,
though greatly improved
is still such
as to render it very
desirable that I should not return
to Hongkong too early as
I am at present called upon to do,
especially at the commencement of the hot season.
I beg to enclose a Certificate to that effect
from Dr. Heard.
Under these circumstances,
I venture to hope that Your Lordship will be kind enough to grant me
an extension of Leave
upon Medical Certificate, with half Salary, for six months,
to reset from the 22d of May. Such

together with the four months' Sick Leave granted to me in Hong Kong,
