¿Cuntinued from page 2.1 WASHINGTON CONFERENCE.
London. Oct., 7.
There is considerable speculation as regards the British repre- sentatives for the Washington Conference. Mr. Balfour is men- tioned as leader. He has cot at present accepted the invitation, but there is every possibility that he will do so. Lord Lee is regarded- as certain to be delegate. Mr. Churchill and Sir I Worthington Evans are aly mentioned, but it is more likely that the former will be at the Irish Conference.
Washington, Oct 8.
Gratification is expressed at the State Department's announce ment that the British delegation to the Washington Conference in- eludes Dominion representatives. Surprise is expressed at Mr. Hughes's statement that the United States "slammed the door in our faces." as the State Department declared that no communica- tions had been exchanged on the subject of the conference between the Governments of the Dominions and the United States as they might have been resected by the British Foreign Office as a violation of diplomatic usuage. The inclusion of Australian Representatives The Iodiso, members of the on the British delegation occasioned no surprise to the State Depart- detachment at oace set to ment. work to rescue

Mr. Mellon urged that Congress should take early action towards giving him the fallest authority to conduct funding negotiations as early as possible.
