COAL,
The price of coal remains firm in Wakamatsu, Moji, and other eastern ports, Collieries, espect ally in the Chikuho district, make believe to be reluctant to sell as the season for winter demand draws near, and particularly be- cause many cotton mills electric light companies, gas companies, etc., have to renew contracts for the supply of coal soon. It is even said that the selfish mine- owners do not comply with any long term contract, say, for threa Imantha or longer, except at a fancy price. So consumers are getting anxious as their holdings fall off. In these circumstances, Manchurian coat is the subject af inquiries. During the past few months, nearly 100,000 tons I have already been imported whila stocks in Dairen and other Man- churian gathering and distribot- ing centres have declined strik- ingly. If things develop an at presect the importation of Kai- ping and other coal will certainly be expedited.
SHANGHAI SHARE MARKET. Mesara. A. L Anderson & Co. Shanghai, in their circular of 17th September, state: Banks-Hong- kong and Shanghais came to business at $725 with $680 paid for new shares F. P. U. Chartered Bank. The Directors bave declared an interim dividend of 75 tax free, in respect of the first six months' working. Mercantile Bank of India. The Directors have declared an interim dividend of 8 lesa tax as payable on the 26th instant on "A", "B" and "C" Chares. Insurances-Cantons have been enquired for from the South at H $103. Unions offered therefrom at Hk. $23. Yaugtszes sold at $26 with possi- bly farther bugers Far Eastaras improved to a buying quotation of 23. Docks and Engineerings.-- Shanghais are quiet at 123. Now Engineerings sold at 11.65 for the "ordinary", and 4.45 and 41⁄2 for the "preference". Cotton Mill- This has been, comparatively speaking, dead market A slight improvement in Orientals and Shangbai Bosboku being the only changes. Rubbers-There ia no longer any market in these. See-Kees. The annual meeting is to be held on 4th proximo: accounts not yet to hand. Sena- wangs (1921). The statutory and General Meetings will take place 00 23rd instant. Shanghai Pabangs. The general managers advertise that the gerstal meet- ing will be held on 4th proximo: accounts not yet to band.-Mis- cellaneous. Trams. A few sbares offer at 90. Shanghai Gas could be placed at 28. Shanghai- Mer- cury. There is an enquiry for these at 20. Telephone Coro- pany. An extraordinary general meeting has been called for the 17th proximo for the purpose of passing resolutions in respect of the proposed doubling of the ( company's capital by the creation of 20.000 new shares of Tis. 50 each. It is proposed that 5,000 of such shares be offered to present shareholder at Tis. 70, in the proportion of one new to four old, and that the remaining 15,000 shares be held for future issue.
