The following is the text of the Petition prepared by the constifu- tional Reform · Association for public signature and despatch to the House of Commons:--

Commons of the United King dom of Great Britain and Ire- land in Parliament assembled.

The Humble Petition of the Undersigned Inhabitants of the Crown Coliny of Hongkong.

Showeth as follows:--

-The Colony a. Hongkong. situated in the China Seas, is one) fof the most valuable and important,

of the Crown Colonies,

2-It is 30 years since the Colony was founded in a barrea rock. which Was then the abode of a fow dahermen and pirates. To-day it is a Colany comprising not only the Island of Hongkong, but also part of the, mainland called Kowloon and the New Territories, the levelopment of which is expanding rapidly.

The population is over 090.009. and the Colony had a trade of 212 million pounds sterling clusive of bullica for the rear 1920. The Revenue, which I wholly derived from internal taxation, amounts to about 15' milion dol-, lars annually, of which 20 per cent, exclusive of the premia de-l rived from sales of Moon Land,, is contributed to the Imperial Government for Military purposes. |
