cont-

One of the divisional manders of the Kuok Ming-tang party has been ordered to mobilise the whole of his forces in the west and to establish defences along the district-Haikin, Tak- hing, Kwongming and Szehui,

It is stated that the military authorities have received advices from Yunnan saying that the Yunnan troops will attack the Kwangsi troops on the west and will give all the assistance they can to the Kwangtung army.

After a consultation between the Provincial Treasurer and the manager of the Bank of Kwang- tung, it has been decided to increase the capital of the Bank to $5,000,000 by inviting cominer- cial firms to subscribe the extra capital on the promise of a hand- some bonus.

The Government has received an urgent telegram from Shaoh- ing, the army headquarters, ask- ing for the urgent supply of munitions as the attacking forces: of Kwangsi are approaching: nearer and that war will break fout in earnest within a week.

Another roport states that the Commander-in-Chiof of the Kwangsi forces at Wuchow has recoived a representative from General Chan King-ming. it in said that after a consultation on the position in Canton it has been agreed to negotiate for a trace and a military conference will later be hold in Canton to decide the matter.

The reason for the non-atten- dance of bidders at the recent that salo of old gunboats is would-be purchasers feared that after they had repaired the boats! they would be commandered again by the Government.

The following paragraphs are taken from the Canton Times:- Messrs. Wang Ching Ching- wai, Wu Chi-fei, two prominent educationalists and ex Gov. Hu Han-mio, an able Chinese scholar, are entrusted with the important task of founding a university to be called the University of Kwangtung. The establishment of the University is under the direc- tion of the Provincial Education- al Association. The temporary site of the proposed university will be situated at the Yuk Chi Kong near the East Gate until an appropriate piece of ground has been selected for the per- manent buildings of the Uni- versity. Entrance examination for admission to the Perpartory Courses will be held on July 1st at the former Language School. Gen, Li Fooklum whose head- quarters is at present located at the; Language School, heartily ap- proves the founding of the Univer- Bity and volunteered to move his headquarters elsewhere so that the examination of students cani ba conducted at this place on July lat.

The Bureau of Education of the Canton Municipality, aiming to unite all the educational or- ganisations and schools in the) city so as to map out definite plans for better education among the children notified the Depart ment of Police to co-operate in the work of gathering statis- tice regarding private educa- tional institutions and public schools and colleges of the city. A record will be kept of all the schools, their attendance, and thei subjects taught by each school.: The record and statistics will be published from time to time which will prove of great value to educa- tional workers.

The manager of the local branch of the Bank of China has returned from Hongkong and is consulting, with Ma Yuk-hong, the new Commissioner of Finance, for the branch which was closed after the withdrawal of the Kwangsi militarists last year. Itis expected that substantial funds will be appropriated for the redemption of the bank notes issued by the branch office which are not at very great discount.
