The manufacture of Chinese matches is growing rapidly and will soon be a serious competitor of the Japanese industry. In the neighbourhood of Tientsin there are now four factories. One has had to close down, but the re- maining three have a producing | capacity of 4,000 tons a month. Their actual monthly output is about 2,500 tons, as against a rlomand of 2,000 tons. Idle stocks in Tientsin and neighbourhood. total 7,000 tanx.
