London, May 11. Prince Hirohito was given a great reception in the City to-day when he received an address of welcome from the Corporation at the Guildhall. He later lunched with the Lord Mayor at the Mansion House, Prince Him-hito, accompanied by the Prince of Wales and Prince Kanín, proceeded from Buckingham Palace at noon in bright Bunshine, through streets beflagged and lined with cheering crowdą, – to the Guildhall, where he was received by the Lord Mayor and, sheriffs, the distinguished company including the Duke of York, the Duke of Connaught, Rt. Hon. Mr. E. Shortt, M.P., Prince Hirohito's suite, Japanese peers, members of the Embassy, officers of the Japanese squadron and Japanese businessmen. Replying to the Lord Mayor's most cordial speech of welcome, Prince Hirohito emphasised the tremendous responsibility upon the survivors of the war to redeem the bloodshed of the millions of their fellowmen by establishing forever the reign of peace and justice. He paid a tribute to Britain, the faithful ally of Japan, whose friendship the Japanese never found wanting in the great task of consolidating the peace oil, the Orient:

At a meeting of the National Council on Venereal Diseases, to which the Mission to the Far East presented its report, Mrs. Neville Rolf declared that she was never so ashamed of being an English- woman as she was in Hongkong, where the registered infant death rate was eight hundred higher than the birth rate, despite British · occupation for eighty years.
