SHIPPING BOARD VESSELS TO
CARRY RELIEF SUPPLIES. Shipping Board vessels opera- ting from North Pacific ports arg expected tocarry capacity cargoes. for the tire when the ship- ment of relief supplies to China regins. Shippers Bre ad- vised that the proposal to Bave* the Navy designature ships to carry the cargó has been aband- oned and that the shipping bourd vessels will transport the to- mense tonnage that is to go to the stricken nation. Seattle commer-
cial bodies have been unofficially advised that the greatest share of the cargo will move from Poget Sound. Seattle is the closest American port to China and a large share of the tonnage will be in food stuffs raised in the Pacific Northwest. This cargo will be welcomed by the shipping board operators, who are sending their ships to the Orient with fairly light cargoes.
NEW " DOLLAR" VESSEL. At the Kiangnan Dock and Engineering Works last month the launch took place of the
Alice Dollar: which is destained. to be placer) on the Ichang-Chungking service by the Robert Dollar Company. The Alice Dollar is similar in most respects to the well-known | Loong Mow, built at the same ! works last year for Mackenzie & Co., for the Ichang Chungking run. The Alice Dollar is 20 feet long, is armoured with Harveyised steel, and possesses all of the advantages which make the Loong Mow such a notable ship. Like the Loong Mow, the Alice, Dollar has been designed to carry freight and four classes of pas sengers. To ensure absoluto safe- ty of life, the vessel has been specially sub-divided by trans- verse watertight bulkheads, so that she will remain afloat with any two compartments flooded. The bull and machinery are halit to American Bureau of Shiphine special class for the service, and will have the highest classifion.» tion for river service,
