RIFLE MEET,

April 4th. The annual meeting of the Hongkong Rifle Association was begun yesterday under very favourable circumstances. The number of entries was more than ever before, and the scores made, despite the stiff gusty wind across the ranges, much better than on previous occasions. Several thirty-fours were made, and one "possible" at 500 yards attracted much attention. The results of the first day's shooting very forcibly showed the superiority of the Loe-Metford over the Martini-Henry rifle. Sergeant Hopkins led for the Queen's Com-. petition at the close of the day, with Mr. E.C. Shepherd only four points behind.

A DEBUT.

The Association entertained Sir Claud Macdonald the British Minister to Peking at tiffin to-day at Hong- kong Hotel and it was a very successful function, short, and vory pleasant, thanks to the tact and sowir faire of the Chairman, Mr. Thomas Jackson,
