Emancipation Office

29th June 1872

I have to acknowledge your letter of 27th inst., with one from the Foreign Office enclosing Despatch from Sir G. Kennedy on the subject of the position in that island of certain Chinese who claim to be British subjects from Hongkong.

&

As far as the returns in this office enable us to ascertain the only Chinese who have migrated from Hong Kong to Labuan were 1077, who sailed in 1856, in four ships and 1090 in two ships.
