I have to acknowledge your letter of 11th inst., with a despatch from Sir R. G. Macdonnell enclosing a tariff of fees lobe paid under the Chinese Emigration Act 1871.

These fees appear high as compared with similar charges in this country, especially those for a marine survey and for the medical inspection of the Emigrants. But the former has been in force since Feb. 7, 1856, and the latter was embodied in the rules framed by R. G. M. Hebert, Esq.
