Statement of Services

Major Vaughan served with the 20th Regiment throughout the Sikh Campaign of 1848-49, including the battles of Aliwal and Sobraon, siege and fall of Mooltan, and affair of the 18th June.

Fort-Munro was present at the capture of the three guns at Aliwal as Adjutant of the Regiment.

Served in the Soudan Campaign of 1857-58, including the Actions of Chanda, Ammianpore and Sultaunpore, siege and final capture of Lucknow, and subsequent operations in Oude;

Affairs of Chanda, Fort-Musjidia, and Bankee, at which he commanded a detachment of 20th Regiment.

Commanded a field force of 400 Cavalry, 200 Infantry, and 2 guns Bengal Horse Artillery, engaged in clearing the Jungles of Bungaon, engaged the Enemy several times, and captured 2 Colours of 15th Native Infantry, Arms and baggage.

Received the Sikh Campaign Medal with two Clasps, the Joudpore Medal, the Oude Campaign Military Medal, and the 6-15th Oude Medal.

The Indian Medal, with Clasp for Lucknow.

Was favourably mentioned in orders by the Governor General of India.

And was promoted to an unattached Majority, on the 10th of August 1872 by purchase.
