Londas, Aug. 30. The Home Secretary notißes that under the Dangerous Drugs Act of 1920, commencing on 1st October, the import and export of opium. medicinal opium, morphis, haroin, cocaine and ecgonïne is prohibited except by license; also the import and export of raw opium is only allowable through the porta of London and Liverpool. All trade in epiam prepared for smoking is absolutely prohibited.

A Federal Grand Jury has indicted forty steamship companies, including the International Mercantile Mariae, Atlantic Transport.} Cunard, Anchor, Booth, French Transatlantic and Kerr Companies, on charges of conspiracy and restraint of trade. The parties indicted include practically all the big Trans-Atlantic lines. The indictment charges the defendants with having, since 1st Jan, 1917, continuouslys violated the Sherman Law by restricting inter-state trade and for-| eign commerce in grain, oil, lamb r. ecal and other commodities.

AMERICAN COAL MINERS.

New York. Aug. 31.

President Wilson has approved of the report of the Anthracite Coal Commission, preposing to increase wages of contract miners by twenty per cent. and those of other miners proportionately. The

whole is equivalent to a total increase of eighty-five million dollars

year. The award is retrospective from 1st April.
