Lord Derby this afternoon. delivered the reply of the British Government to the second French note it appears that as a reanis of the presentation of this third British nota the incident is regarded as on the point of settlement."
London, April 12
In the House of Commons, Mr. Bonar Law was bombarded with questions on the Anglo-French sitnation.
Visconas Curzon asked whether Lord Derby would attend the conference of Ambassadors in Paris!
--Mr.-Fonar-Law asked that the question be pasiponed for a couple of days as this particular point had not been discussed. Mr. Claude Lowther asked whether tho tierman arm), including Rejchswehr, miitia and police, numbered two million)
Mr. Bonar Law did not think there was a shadow of foundation for such a suggestion.
Mr. Bonar Law, replying to Col Wedgwood, said the Roternment's infarthation was that the Reichamber would be shortly withdrawn from the Essen district bas he was not aware whether it had actually been withdrawn.
Commander Kenworthey asked whether we were taking shops to insist on the withdrawal of the Eiermana from the
zútral zone?
Mr. Bonar Law deprecated discussion of isolated parts the subject because the matter affects not merely Britain but the Allies. It was possible that developments would make discussion advisable but he hoped not If it did the Govern ment was quite ready to give an opportunity. The House must realise that any statement in the House of Commechs, especially by a member of the Government, apparently justifying our attitude might have the appearance of criticising the attitude, of the Allies. It also might convey to the German Govern ment the idea that there was not complete agreement between the Allies regarding the importance of the Treaty. The subjec: was dropped.
Berlin, April 1
In the National Assembly, the Chancellor, Herr Mueller, protesting against the wrenpation of Frankfort, accused France of breaking the Versailles Treaty and discrediting the League Nations. The occupation was undertaken without the sanction of the other signatures, without justification in the ly and in direct contradiction of the protest of th December declaring post-war breaches of the Treaty only punishable in accordance with the prescriptions of inter- national law or the terms of the Treaty, which does not entitle Indridal signatories to invade Germany, while the League Covenant contends that hostilities are not allowable against a non-member of the League without a prior appeal to the League Counci He protested against France's use of Semogale and discredited the idea that the strength of the Entente is declining The French reenpation had stirred up the nationalistic instinct, giving a fresh impetus to militarist Germany. He was negotiating with the Entente with a view to perdentation until leth July of the agreement pers
