Report upon
it by Mr. Smale, a copy of
which I enclose for your information,
was transmitted
to the Foreign Office and Earl Granville has been
advised by the Law Officers
with reference to the first
question, that it is very desirable to have one person
in the Colony whose official duty it is
to at once
take possession and care of
the Estates of Aliens who die
in the Colony, and hold it till
the Consul or other person
entitled to the grant apply
for administration: That there
is apparently no reason why
