To the Editor of the Hongkong Telegraph"]

THE IRISH QUESTION. Sir,In your leader of the 26th instant you say "and the pity of it alt Is that Irishmen, not so much English-

nien,

are responsible for the delay." Will you say in what way Irishmen are the cause of the delay. When you wrote "Irishmen did you mean the Carson gang, the leader of which publicly declared in 1914 that he would prefer sec Ireland governed by Germany than by The Irish Nationalists?

to

Again, you say "Englishmen don't care a hang as long as all is quiet.in Ireland." It that is so, why did your don't-care-a- hang Englishnien reject the Home Rula Bills of 1886 and 1804 Why did they hang up by a suspension clause the Rill at present on the Statue Book? If your don-care-a-hang English- men want all quiet in Ireland, why do they persistently listen to and profess to believe in the Tempty bunkum of the Carson- [ Londonderry-Orange gang when they spout about religious Liberty, Home Rule, Rome Rule and the rest of it? Why do they refuse the most natural demand of the Irish to a [Government of their own? tat seem to suggest that Irishmen are responsible for the commission of crime in Ireland. If so, you are mistaken. Crime there is committed by foreign footpads at the instigation of a gang of un- Įscrupulous politicians with a view

to preventing the

passage of Home Rule.

Yours etc. PATRICK O'BORKE.

BURGLAR'S FALL.

AND ITS SEQUEL.

Was

On the 23rd of January, a Chinese burglar broke into a house! at Hunghem and threw the in- mates into a state of panic. He was first discovered by a woman. who peeped through a partition cf the cubicle where he making himself busy tying up a blanket and clothing, which he had purloined, into a bundle. The woman went downstairs and informed the inmates of-the second floor of the news. Instead of preparing to fall on the thief, they set up a chorus | of "Save Life!" and blew, police whistles. The thief scrambed on to an adjacent house, missed his footsteps, and fell into the street from a parapet. He was picked up in an unconscious condition and conveyed to the Hospital, where he stayed until he was dis- charged resterday, a cripple with a fractured leg. He was to-day charged with burglary before Mr. N. L. Sraith. Another charge was that of being in possession of a dagger, which was found tucked in his girdle when he was remov. ed on that eventfull night to Hospital. He was sentenced to eighteen months' hard labour.

FULL-BLOODED PEOPLE.

WHY OTHER PEOPLE LIKE

THEM.

В

We can all call to mind men and women who give such sense of vitality and strength that they are bound to get on. A woman of this type--full- blooded, plump and bright-eyed -always has a group of admirers round her. A man of the same kind always gets his own way.

The reason is that there is a natural and wholesome tendency in all of us to appreciate health and healthy people-those with vigorous red blood in their veins, instead of thin watery bloodless- Often we remark that we envy them their vitality and keen interest in the affairs of life.

There no need for eavy if the bloodless delicate ones will
