NOVEL DECISION IN THE PRIZE COURT.
terri-
A decision was given recently by the President of the Prize Court, Sir Henry Duke, of im- portance to countries which were neutral during the war. It coa-p cerned a clain by the Norwegian Government for restitution of the value of the German ship Valeria, captured by a British vessel in Norwegian torial waters and subsequently sunk. His lordship decided that the Valeria was captured in error in good faith, and, that being so. the British Government was not! liable to make good the loss. It was not resonable to give. enemy owners a privilege that would not be given to neutral In view of a novel point having been raised in the judg ment, with an important bearing on international relations, Sir Henry granted leave to appeal.

JU-JITSU CONTEST.
A feature et the Circus at Olympia on 3rd January was ju-jitsu contest between - Yukio Tani, the Japanese exponent of this form of wrestling, and Jack Madden, recognised as the British ju-jiten champion. The terms of the contest were that Tani would paid £20 if he failed to throw Madden within a quarter of an hour and £100 if Madden defeated him. Madden had once received £20 for withstanding the Japan ese for fifteen minutes. After a most exciting bout, in which Medden showed considerable skill, Tani was victorous in 4 mins: 4 secs.
