In the House of Commons the second reading of the Silver Coinage Bill was passed. Mr. Chamberlain pointed out that the Bill only affected coinage in the United Kingdom wherever it was current and announced his intention of moving an amendment, making it clear that in the case of the Dominions which were affected this coinage would not be made legal tender except with the consent of the local Government,

Mr. Lloyd George, as President of the Supreme Council, has to-day written to Herr Sthamer, the German Charge d'Affaires in London, įstating that he has received an intimation from the President of the Commission of Control in Berlin pointing out the difficulty with which the German Government will be confronted if the Allies insist on the reduction of military strangth under the Peace Treaty to 100,000 by March 31st next.. This date was fixed in the belief that the Treaty would operate much earlier, and the Supreme Coun. has decided to permit the reduction to be 200,000 by April 19 and 100,000 by July 10.
