had an unfavourable influence upon the maritime trade of Lon- don: Thaus during the seven months ended 31st October, 1918, the vessels arriving and departing with cargoes reached a total of 7741,588 tons &* London's Liverpool, whereas record was 6.083,848 tons. For the time being. therefore. Liverpool, with a percentage of 1.65 of the total for the United Kingdom, claimed on the basis of shipping tonnage to be the first British seaport. Loudon's percentage having fallen to 13. With the return to more normal conditions, hatters have rapidly tended to revert to the pre-war position as regards these two great competi tive ports. For the seven months* pericd ended 31st October, 1919. the comparative figure for Lon- don is 10,303,299 toms, at increase of 4,219,451 tons, while Liverpool is credited with 9.249.957 tons, an increase of 1.508.369 tons. The effect of the returns (from which many of the vessels engaged on Government service are excluded in both ports) is to give London 16.4 per cent, of the tonnage and Liverpool 14.7 per cent. It may be added that the figures show a general recovery for the East Coast ports. The port of Hull, whose total tonnage for the seven months ended 31st October, 1918, MANILA, CEBU & ILOILO Taming
