THE FUTURE OF UIL FUEL. The development of oil fuel. which is attracting so much attention in the industrial world just dw, is the subject of a specially interesing interview with Sir Charles Greenway, Bert., in the December issue of The Compendium. Sir Chas. Greenway believes that the available supply of oil will be large enough to meet à considerable portion of the world's marine industrial and railway requirements when it W&5 practicable to pro- perly examine and bring into production the large petro- Jiferous areas which exist in practically every part of the world. It must be remembered, says Sir Charles, that excepting the United States the world's stores of petroleum have as yet been scarcely tapped, owing to the many difficulties which have hitherto stood in, the way of successful development, e.g. the large captal required for success | LTD fully conducting an oil enterprise,

then obtained will be available in the form of fuel oil is largely de- pendent upon the quality of the oil which may be found in new fields, but it may. I think, be safety estimated at 50,000,000 tone, being burnt under boilers in place of coal, and the other half being used in internal combustion engines, gives the equivalent of Fomething like 150,000,000 tons of coal. Referring to the big programme of development which aims at supplying oil fuel for ships, Sir Charles says: "My com- pany is making all necessary ar- rangement for establishing depois for the sale of cil fuel for bunker- ing in all parts of the world. A number of these depots are already in operation-and marÿ others are in various stages of progress. This work, particularly under recent conditions of diffi culty in procuring and transport- ing the necessary plant, naturally. occupies a good deal of time, but when our programme is completed we shall be in a position to supply oil fuel in extensive quantities to ships at practically all the princi- pal ports, both in the United Kingdom and abroad.”
