A DUBLIN TRAGEDY.
London, Jan 21.
Mr. Redmond, Assistant Commissioner of the Dublin Metropolitan Police, has been found shot dead in Harcourt Street in the centre of Dublin. Two shuts were heard.
The murder has created a great sensation. Mr. Redmond was the second Assistant Commissioner recently appointed to the Dublin Metropolitan Police from the Royal Irish Constabulary at Belfast. He was proceeding home at 7 p.m. When opposite the premises of the Sinn Fein Bank he was fred on by men hiding in a gateway. One bullet pierced his head and death was practically instantaneous. have been no arrests up to the present!

WIFE'S COMPLAINT OF HUSBAND'S ABSENCE
An attempt to settle in Court the matrimonial differences of Mr. Harvey Hadden, of Half Moon- street, Piccadilly, and his wife, broke down, and the proceedings were continued before Mr. Justice Shearman.
During the hearing Mr. Hadden said ber husband was absent from her`s good deal playing golf, and the Judge said that raised a serious question as to whether continued absence on the golf Course amounted to legal cruelty.
Mr. Madelina Violet Hadies, a daughter of Colonel Galloway, of Leamington, is petitioning for a judicial separation from her husband on the ground of his alleged cruelty. Mr. Hadden, who is said to have an income of £10,000 3 year, denies the charges.

evidence, Mrs. Hadden described a visit to Budleigh Salterton, and said her husband took rooms for himself and the children in a hotel, but provided a room for her in another hotel opposite. He consented later, however, to ber having il room in the same building.
The day after she went there he read a book to the children. who were present, about the law of custody of children. He said he had the sole legal right to the children, and that when anything happened to him, he, would arrange for "other people to be their guardians.
While they were at this place. said Mr. Hadden. her husband was absent "from her a good deal playing golf.
His Lordship: This raises à serious question as to whether continued absence on the golf course amounts to legal cruelty. (Laughter.) I may say that I know this golf course at Budleigh Salterton, and it has its attrac tions,
Mr. Holman Gregory, EC., for the husband:-Then I am afraid some barristers make bad hus- bands. (Laughter.)
In cross-examination by Mr Holman Gregory, Mrs. Hadden said she washonest in her desire to return to a home provided by her husband on condition that he treated her properly. She denied that the trouble between them was caused by her mother or any of her people.
Mrs Hadden said she be- lieved that, while her hus- band was away in Vancouver

a year for the upkeep of the house at Eastbourne.
At the first he gave her £120 a year for dress, but he cut that. down. and later she had to pay for her own dresses. Only twice after that did he pay the dress bills which she handed to him. During the war, her husband sug- gested that they should keep down expenses and spend the rest as war charities.

Medical evidence was inter- posed to show that Mrs. Hadden was neurasthenic and suffered from sleeplessness, and that it would be detrimental to her health if she were to go back to her bus- band.
In further cross-examination, Mrs. Hadden said her husband locked her in the study on one occasion last year. She denied saying to her husband "Someone ought to put a bullet through you,” or pushing him as he was going out of the room.
With regard to an incident on Christmas Eve, Mrs. Hadden said she was not aware that the cause of her husband's anger which she said he showed on that occasion was the fact that their boy had got out of bed during the night, and

Major Leonard Galloway, D. S. O Royal Garrison Artillery, a brother of Mrs. Hedden, said that, when he went to see Mr. Hadden as to his treatment of his wife, Mr. Hadden flew into a great rage and danced about the room. Mr. Hadden wrote down what witness had said on a piece of paper, and when witness took hold of it, Mr. Hadden chased him round the room.
