SHANGHAI SHOPKEEPERS DENOUNCED.

Shanghai, January 15.

The British Assessor, Mr. Grant Jones, in the Mixed Court,, denounced the shopkeepers refusing to pay their taxes as "rogues." The three charged must pay the rates and costs. Nine others were sentenced to pay the taxes plus cost of the summonses. Collections are now regular.

SINGAPORE CONTROLLING RICE.

Singapore, January 16.

The Government, through its desire to ensure that every person, poor as well rich, obtains the same allowance of rice regularly at the same price. has decided, after consultation with the Rice Distribution Advisory Committee, to distribute supplies by householders' cards. Forms will be issued shortly. Eighteen depots are to be opened. called District Rice Offices.
