This is one of Verdi's earlier operas and thongh the beauty of its music is altogether beyond question it has not the same dramatic excellence as his works after he came under the influence of Wagner. The
scope for strong acting is somewhat limited, and because of this: "La Traviata" is not popular as many of the other operas in the Company's re- pertoire. However, full justice was done to the story on Saturday, the individual and concerted work being of a very high standard. The Company is fortunate in possessing suci:
