Developmenta in aviation during the war have opened up a great vista of the possibilities to which the aeroplane can be put. The idea of an aerial mail and pas- senger service naturally suggests itself to the mind first, by reason of the advantages accruing therefrom. The success attending the practical realis ation of this idea in Europe and America has beet everywhere greated with enthusiasm; and not a few people in Hongkong are to-day wishing that the Colony would cast aside its well-worn cloak of conservatism and give expression to its importance as commercial and tourist centre by having aeroplane services of its
own.
There is admittedly & fascina- tion in the suggestion which ap peals to us all. We call up a rision of Hongkong of a few years hence, the rendezvous not only of marine ships but of airships as well. The dreamer sees our har- bour crowded with shipping, while above the water, and over the City, planes come and go, do- ing a big business in the trans- portation of goods. mail and passengers.
THE POSTMASTER'S VIEWS. The feasibility of the idea from a business point of view has not been fully realised by many people here. Whilst welcoming the suggestion, Mr. Ross is of opinion that it will not be a business proposition for the Post Office itself to purchase, equip and run its own serial craft, would be such that it would not be 8 remunerative under taking.
