I have the honor to acknowledge Your Lordship's despatch n. 39 of the 18th Oct.

inclosing correspondence between Sir R. McDonnell Governor of Hongkong, & the Colonial Office upon the subject of the cruiser service newly established by the Canton Govt. for the surveillance of the Junk trade west of Hongkong & Macao.

The Regulations affecting this service were forwarded to me some time since by Mr. Hughes. I cannot doubt that he will have sent a copy of them to the Colonial Office - I have instructed him if he have not to send a copy to Hongkong immediately.
