IMPROVING KARACHI, There is now under considera- tion the question of equipping the port of Karachi, British India, with grain elevators for handling export grain in bulk. Objections, however, have been raised to this plan on the ground that labour conditions have not yet rendered it necessary to adopt the elevator system, but it is decidedly pro- bable that such an installation will ultimately be added to the port's equipment. The current year's grain crop in the Punjab is so far below normal in quantity 1st Dec. 2nd Dec.

While he said he could give no exact figures as to the rost of keeping up these ships, Mr. Landau stated he believed that the money expended by the Shipping Board for repairs would probably exceed the revenue paid in by the charterers. To give some indication of the belated conditions surrounding the wooden ships. he cited four recent royages of the ships Balino, Bulasaro. Daram and Congaree. According to the official figures T.
