be nothing in the story, yet future developments in this direction would be worth' care- ful watching. A certain direc- tor of the Hamburg-America Line recently stated that the Company was not at present in need of fresh capital, and more- over, it possessed ample funds and resources. The only thing requir- ed being new ships to reconstruct the fleet. However, shipbuilders the world over are well supplied with orders for ships at the pre- sent time and it appears that German steamship lines will have to rely on their own country to build the ships that are required for the successful reconstruction of German shipping companies. Steamers of the class required are 1st December. not built in a few months and in the meantime America holds the pick of the ships. It would appear that in the future the Hamburg- America Line will have very little influence as far as the Atlantic

trade is concerned.
