EXPECTED PAPER BOOM:
In Germany, America and Japan there appears to be an expectation of a boom in paper. Japanese hand-made paper has always commanded B good market, and the war scarcity gave the industry a big lift. If the boom materializes Japan should stand to be the gainer, for her paper industry was already established nearly 250 years ago. when the Dutch traders set foot in the country. To-day nearly 150,000 people are said to be employed at an average daily wage of 24 cents. Labour at this price leaves, plenty of room for pricecutt ng.
HINT TO BRITISH TOY MAKERS.
Mr. H. Wentworth James, the editor of the Advertisers Weekly, states that though the British toy makers are plaintively calling on the Government for help, they are evincing no.great desire to help themselves by taking advantage of one of the most potent forces of the business world-advertising. If the Toy Makers' Federation got together in earnest. inaugurated a strong propaganda in favour of the British tors, and saw that their British toys were branded with the British trade mark, they would at least he says, put one nasty obstruction in the path of the German toy industry so far as this country, is concerned.
A NEW SINO-BRITISH COMPANY, A new Sino-British company for manufacturing and trading purposes has been founded under the name of the Sino-British Trade Corporation. Consignees of cargo must pro- duce an Import permit signed by the Superintendent of Imports & Exports, Hongkong before Bille of Lading will be countersigned.
All broken, chafed and dam-
aged cargo is to be left in the Godowns, where it will be examined at 10 a.m. on Nov. 12th, 1919 by the Company's Surveyors," Messrs. Goddard & Douglas.
All claims must be presented within 30 days of the steamer's arrival here, after which they cannot be recognized.
