THE C.Y.C.

CRUISER CHAMPION-

SHIP RACE.

The first of the series of fire cruiser championship races in connection with the Corinthian Yacht Club was sailed on Sunday. The course was from Murray Pier to Datum Rock (S), Kau-i-chan (S), Pillar Rock (S), Stonecutters (S), finishing at the Club line. Six yachts turned out, but up to the time of the actual start there was barely enough wind to manoeuvre. With the starting gun, however, a squall came away from the North, and a very good start was Azuma and Norseman, made, close-baulded, got well clear of the shipping, and kept the wind to Datum Rock and Chung Hue, Westwind, Mist. Brynhilde, and Helen got into a patch of calmn off Belchers, and were delayed half an hour, after which a strong breeze from the North carried them on to Datum Rock, Bryn- hilde dropping out on the way as the freshening breeze was too much for her.

The rounding of Pillar Rock was a difficult matter for every one, and caused much delay, the

here wind

being light and variable, with a strong ebb tide running out of Rambler Channel.

Helen gave up here, being unable

to round the mark. Times are given below.
