Efforts are being made by the Yokohama harbour authorities towards improving the lighthouse facilities of the harbour. Officials desire to fit the breakwate: light- houses with 10,000 candle-power electric lights, at a cost of Yea 1,500,000.

KEELUNG HARBOUR. The harbour of Keelung is to be improved at a cost of Y.7,000,000 during the next seven
years, When the improvement gramme has been complete 1. the accommodation capacity of the water front will be increased to 2,300,000 tons from the present capacity of 700,000 tons, while the moorings in the harbour will be extended so that 25 ships. in- stead of 14 ships, as at present. can anchor at the same time.

During 1918 the total numberi and tonnage of vessels which entered and cleared at Tientsin. was 1,609 vessels of 1.598,492 tons, showing. when compared with 1917, an increase of 99 vessels but a decrease of 57,099 tons. The percentages of the different flags were: 42.0 peremt. Japanese; 35.0 per cent. British; 20 per cent Chinese; 1.7 per cent. Dutch; and 1.3 per cent. Ameri- can.. Norwegian and Russian.

ber. This is the first attempt toemploy in the Pacific the vessels owned by the Canadian Govern- ment. It is said that several vessels of 8,100 tons each, which are now under construction. will also be placed on the new Canadian-Australian route.
NOTICE TO MARINERS. Notice is given that on or about the 15th November, 1919, the buoyage of the Langshan Cross- ing and the channel southward of the Langshan Flats to Plover Point. Yangtze River, will be discontinued. The abandon- ment of this channel is con- sequent on the continued rapid shoaling of the Langshan Cross- ing, which now has only a depth of 14 feet at low water of spring tides. The Buoys that will be removed are as follows:--North Bank Baoy. Langshan Buor, Vine Peint Lower Buoy, Water- man Bank Buoy, Vine Point Buoy. Waterman Bank Upper Buoy and. Lower Crossing Buoy. So scon as the above Buoys have been removed the Tungchow Channel will be the only officially buoyed fairway between Plover Point and Vine Point.
