The petition, which was filed on October 17. has been made by Chan Sio Hing, of the Commercial Union Assurance Co., Ltd. of Queen's Buildings, and in the petition it is stated that the Com- pany is indebted tp him for the sum of $5,000 which he had de- posited. He made application for the payment, but the Company has failed to pay any part of it. The Company is unable to raise funds and its account at the banks is overdrawn and the banks have refused to allow a further over! draft. Alex Ross and Co. to the building next to the Post Office marks a new epoch in the history of the firm. If Sir. Paul Chater is the optimist of Hongkong, Messrs. Alex Ross and Co. are the optimistic firm of the Colony. Its faith in the latent possibilities of this British Colony has been unbounded. It has at all times lived in the hope that motoring would be popular in the Colony, and it is today seeing that conviction consum- mated. "Everything for motor- ing" has been the slogan of Messrs. Alex Ross and Co., and right truly it has lived up to it, for its stores are not ouly replete the with every accessory for motor but it carries, and has un- der its agency, some of the very best motor cars manufactured at Home and in America.
