At a recent meeting of the Singapore Legislative Council the Acting Attorney General, in moving the first reading of the Former Enemy Aliens Admission Bill, said the ineasure was most important and one of the most interesting Bills that had come before that Council since the 'cessation

of hostilities. The Bill was introduced, after the raceipt of a telegram from the Secretary of State requesting them, to legislate that former enemy aliens 'should not be ad- mitted into the Colony without a permit from the Colonial Secret- Bry. The question they had to consider was whether they pro- posed to allow their former enemies to come and settle down here and establish themselves in trade. He suggested there was only one answer. They did not object to them coming and in- specting their agencies or to buy our goods.

The Bill passed its first read- ing, but as a matter of urgency Standing Orders were introduced and the Bill passed its second and third readings and now is law..
