I am directed by the Earl of Kimberley
to acknowledge the receipt
of your letter of the 11th of November, respecting a claim on the part of the Indian Govt "against" H. Brit. Colonial Govt "China" for the sum of £2503, 18s, 10d, together with a letter from
the Treasury
and Buchers
bearing on the matter.
I am to state for the information of the Duke of Argyll,
that Lord Kimberley is unable on the part of the Colony of Hongkong to entertain the application that has been made (for relief) in error, by
the Govt of India, as he is not aware of any
sufficient
ground for the demand, which does not appear to be in conformity with any existing arrangement.
I am,
QM..
