MINUET OR JAZZ?
Are the minue: and the pavane to return to their one-time popul arity and to take the place of the modern jazz and maxina in the modern. ball-room? Mr. Purich, in the epilogue to his last volume. learns that they are, and that the waltz, too, is regaining, its old place. The editor of the, Dancing Times however, while agreeing that the waltz is returning to favour, sees little chance for the minuet or the pavane. "At many dances." he said to a member of the Daily News stall yesterday. every third dance is a waltz and in the fox-trot and one-step a great many dancers use the waltz, as their turn step but I do not think there is the remotest chance for the minuet. It is impossible to do it in modern trousers. It is essentially a costume dance. A man has to go through many graceful actions, and to carry | these out properly he requires lace-frilled sleeves, a lace hand- kerchief. and ruffle. This also is a very stately dance, and, cloaks were much used when it was in vogue.
BY AEROPLANE TO THE HONEYMOON,

A new method of starting on a honeymoon journey was, adopted by a bride and bridegroom at Chorley Wood Bucks, recently. On a grassy space immediately in front of the parish church where the wedding took place, an aeroplane was waiting, and as soon as the ceremonies, sacred and social, were over, the couple took their seats in the machine and, started their journey Fowey, Cornwall, where the honeymoon is to be spent. They arrived at Fowey at 8 o'clock in the evening, the aeroplane land- ing safely in a football field. The adventurous bride was Miss Nora Standen, granddaughter of Mrs. Macnamara, of Chorley. The Mayor of Partsmouth recent- y formally took possession of the landmark, the disappearance of which will bring about an artensive improvement of the only land entrance to the port. Volunteers of 30 and 40 years ago, who attended the great reviews at Portsmouth, will also vividly recall the march through the narrow arches.

A deputation of officials headed by General Schnetzer this evening went to the Ministry and summoned the Cab inet to resign on the ground that the Government did not represent the whole nation. London, Aug. 7.
Apparently the new Hungarian Government consists of representatives of the pre-Bolshevik regime. Later news shows that the downfall of the Peidi Cabinet was dramatically sadden. Hungarian gendarmerie surrounded the National Palace where the Cabinet was meeting and arrested the Cabinet.

Budapest, August 7. The following proclamation had been made by Archduke Joseph:"Impelled by imperishable love for the Hungarian people, and responding to requests from all sides, have undertaken a solution of the seemingly impossible situation. I cannot look on while politicians of various interests and party groups are quarrelling over the fate of my poor Fatherland. Everywhere complete anarchy reigns in Trans Danubia. A Ministry in office that nobody recognises and complete stoppage of foodsupply already threaten a catastro-- phe unless the educated classes, united with the saber word ing classes and peasants, establish order, with a strong hand." The proclamation appoints provisional Ministers, in- cluding Friedrich and Tanozos (cabled yesterday), but not including a War Minister. It says a transitional Govert ment will be formed a few days after the citizens, peasants and workmen have consulted. It concludes: “Let everyone in whose heart still lives a spark of patriotism support the- Government with entire devation in its difficult position.. Away with' discord, criticism and sophistry. Let there be unity, understanding and work. Let us immovably trust in a better future for our Fatherland
