PROTECTING BRITISH TRADE.

Lord Curzon has informed the Association of Chambers of Commerce that he is appointing a Committee to discuss the present means of protecting British trading interests abroad: The committee will discuss means whereby solidarity of British interests may be maintained. It is understood that all questions of the basis on which British Chambers of Commerce shall be established in foreign countries will be considered.

TURKISH PRISONERS IN MALTA.

"Sixty-six Turkish prisoners have arrived under strong military escort. There is the greatest reticence regarding their names but it is known they practically comprise all the Ministers of the old regime who were responsible for the Armenian massacres, deportations and other crimes and intrigues.

A number of Municipal Councillors have appealed to the population to remain calm. The warning is superfucas as the strike negotiations are proceeding in a most orderly 'fashion.

The strike situation in France has taken vast proper- tions. In Paris subway workers, autobas and trancar em- The ployes are stopping work paralyzing the trafic. Prefecture of Police estimates the rumber of strikers at 80.000 but the Secretaries of the Trade Unions insist that 230.000 would be a more correct computation of the strikers in the city and suburbs.----

ADMIRAL KOLTCHAK'S REPLY.

Admiral Koltchak's reply to the Allied note has been received and is mainly satisfactory but it makes reservations ae regards the Allies' insistence on the convocation of the Constituent Assembly and the recognition of the independence of the new states formed out of Tsarist Russia with the "approval of the Allies.
